Ice/Snow Luminaries

I saw snow luminaries in Family Fun magazine, and I fell in love. They were so adorable. To make the snow luminaries, basically you pack snow very tightly into the two buckets instead of pouring water and freezing it!

Enjoy! I can't wait to move to Minnesota where I'll actually have enough snow (and cold weather) to actually make the snow luminaries.

Personalize Your Votive Holders

Hot glue some ribbon, lace or other small decorative items to a votive holder or glass bowl for floating candles (or even potpourri),to give the holder your own little twist.

My college roommate did this for her wedding, and it looked fantastic.

This also is great for parties, or even when you're just trying to get something that will match the decor in your living room, or you want a change without spending a ton of money.

Scented Sachets

Fill a small sachet with aroma beads and place it in your car, your lingerie drawer, or anywhere you'd like a little extra scent. This is a quick and easy way to make the room, or the car smell wonderful.

I've also heard of people hiding tarts in their drawers as well.

Of course if you'd rather be a little more traditional you can always try our potpourri or our linen/air freshener spray.

Candle Ceremonies

As everyone knows, most children LOVE to blow out candles!

As a reward for good behavior have a special candle ceremony! Choose a candle that reminds your child of what he is working on, and name the ceremony, make it exciting for your child.

For example, if you and your child are working on getting better grades, you may decide to use an Apple scented candle (since children traditionally carried an apple to school for the teacher), and each time the child passes a milestone, whether it be getting all the answers right on his homework, getting a great grade on his test, or even understanding what was taught in class that day praise him for his accomplishment, light the candle, and let him blow it out!

Your child will love this. If you are working on getting the child to help out around the house you can use a Fresh Linen scented candle, and call it the Handy Helper's Special Candle. Of course, you might not like these scents, so feel free to pick your own, or let your child help you pick the scent, and let him help you decide on the name of the ceremony.

How to make a tin can lantern

You will need: gloves, a towel, a clean tin can, water, different sized nails, a wire hanger, and a freezer.

1. Take a clean tin can, fill it with water and freeze it.

2. Put on your gloves to keep your hands warm, then set the tin can on a towel, and hammer out a design using the different nails. Make sure that you work quickly so that you finish before the ice melts.

3. Attach hanger so that it makes a handle.

4. Place your votive or candle in the lantern, and enjoy. A citronella votive would be a great choice for an outdoor picnic or a barbecue.

It looks like our next helping hands candle will go towards relief for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina. I will let you know as soon as I hear more.
